Tools to help you think differently—on purpose.
These are the core templates from the Vacation Logic framework.
Use them to break down a reality, invert its logic, and start building something new.
Free to download. Structured to provoke.
Excerpts of Reality
Don’t let the number of tools fool you—this framework is simpler than it looks.
A Reality Snippet is just a small version of a Canvas. The tools scale with your needs, not your complexity.
Use what fits. They’re all built from the same logic.
-

Inversion Canvas
For each essence, there’s more than one manifestation. Use this canvas to apply the Operators of Change—Is↔Isn’t, Lots↔Little, Whole↔Part—and uncover radically different manifestations for the same essence. This is where you collect the possible manifestations of your new reality.
Best printed on A4 paper.
-

Reality Snippet (A6)
A fast and flexible way to capture fragments of a reality as you hear them. Best used during interviews, observations, or the early stages of exploring your current reality.
Best printed on A6 paper.
-

Large Reality Snippet (A5)
A structured template for breaking down any situation into its most essential building blocks (essences). Ideal for individuals or small teams doing early-stage reality deconstruction.
Best printed on A5 paper.
-

Reality Canvas (A3)
A more detailed version of the Canvas, designed for presenting the structure of a current reality—or a proposed new one. Use this when you’re ready to show how the pieces fit together, clearly and coherently.
Best when printed on A3 paper.
Welcome to the Third View podcast
The Third View is a podcast about change at the system level: what is actually happening when an industry inverts, a political order collapses, or a business model becomes obsolete overnight. Not what we should feel about it. What the structure of it is, and what it makes possible.
Every two weeks, Erik de Ruijter, Janne Brok and Manasi Kumbhat apply their framework of radical systems level change to one complex system: politics, business, or society.
If you think in systems, this is your show.
